Future Leaders Academy

Published in Events

Deadline for applications: Thursday 28 February 2013. ESDR Academy for Future Leaders in Dermatology. Florence, Italy: 17-19 October 2013. ESDR plans to invite approximately 25 gifted young scientists from dermatological departments in Europe for a 2.5 day meeting in 2013. The meeting will be fully organised under the auspices of the ESDR board and will take place in Florence. This meeting follows the very successful academies held in Cascais (2011) and Barcelona (2012).

The meeting will bring together renowned scientists from dermatology and basic science with the brightest young dermatologists working in the field that year. All attendees will have to give oral presentations and poster presentations of their work and there will be lectures by invited scientists (experts in the field) that will complement these presentations. For 2013 the general topic will be "Challenges in Skin Biology" though it is not necessary to have a background in this area - the academy is open to all areas of dermatological research. A draft program is available below.

ESDR is especially suited to hosting such a meeting as most young researchers in dermatology present their work at the annual ESDR meeting. Also, all renowned scientists in the field are members of our society and will be happy to assist the board in organising these meetings. The goal is to foster excellence in academic dermatology and to encourage young gifted dermatologists to further pursue their academic careers through guidance and mentoring of established scientists. Besides scientific sessions, there will be a strong emphasis on encouraging young people to network and to exchange ideas. The ESDR will reimburse travel costs to and from the meeting venue (up to EUR 500), provide deluxe accommodation for two nights and all meals and social events. There is no registration fee.

Interested young scientists must complete an application form, which which is available here (Microsoft Word document) or here (Adobe PDF). The deadline for applications is 28 February 2013.
