Prof Michael Detmar

Professor of Pharmacogenomics
Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, ETH Zurich

Background

Michael Detmar obtained his M.D. degree from the University of Freiburg, Germany, in 1984. He performed his clinical training in dermatology at the Free University of Berlin where he was appointed Assistant Professor of Dermatology in 1991. He has been at Harvard Medical School since 1993. In 1998, he was appointed as an Associate Professor of Dermatology at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA. In 2004, he was appointed Professor of Pharmacogenomics at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, ETH Zurich. His major interests are in the areas of cancer metastasis, psoriasis, skin aging, vascular biology, drug discovery and pharmacogenomics.

He serves as a Section Editor for The Journal of Investigative Dermatology and as Associate Editor for Cancer Research. He is also a member of the Editorial Boards of The Journal of Dermatological Science and of Cancer Biology and Therapy, and he is the European Editor of Lymphatic Research and Biology. He serves as an advisory board member for a number of scientific organizations, foundations and pharmaceutical companies. He has received several scientific awards, including the 2005 Marion B. Sulzberger Memorial Award of the American Academy of Dermatology. He is the author of more than 120 original publications and of several issued patents.
