2010 ESDR/JSID Young Fellow Collegiality Awards PDF Print E-mail
Deadline: 7 July 2010

Following the successful introduction of ESDR-JSID collegiality awards in 2009, both Societies are keen to continue the awards for 2010 and beyond.

The overall objective of the awards remains to help promising researchers obtain international exposure of their work at an early stage in their career and thereby help develop their professionalism and sense of achievement.

To do this, we would like to encourage young fellows to make a habit of attending both the annual EDSR and JSID meetings, believing this is a great way of stimulating academic exchange as well as new professional interactions and collaborations.

For example, a young researcher in Europe, who contributes to the ESDR meetings, would be encouraged to submit an abstract (different data) for presentation at the JSID meeting.

En route to, or on the way back from, the JSID meeting the ESDR would help support a visit for that fellow to attend a Department or Institute at which he/she could present some data and enjoy some academic discussions/feedback, as well as some local hospitality. There will be a reciprocal arrangement for JSID young fellows to visit a department in Europe and to incorporate the ESDR meeting.

Who is Eligible?

For European-based researchers, the eligibility criteria are:

[1] Member of the ESDR (new membership application is also possible)

[2] Currently active in investigative dermatology within a European University-based Department or Laboratory or similar Institution.

[3] Currently employed as a Resident, PhD student, Post-doctoral Research Fellow, Lecturer, Instructor or Assistant Professor. Ineligible are Associate Professors, Senior Lecturers, Full Professors, Consultants, and Dermatologists in full-time clinical practice.

What are the Benefits?

[1] The ESDR will award successful applicants 1000 euros to assist with travel and accommodation.

[2] The JSID will waive the registration fee for its annual meeting.

[3] There will be the opportunity to present and discuss your data by visiting a Department in Japan.

NB Any additional costs (e.g. for travel and accommodation for the Departmental visit) will need to be borne by the applicant or the host Department.

How Many Awards will there be?

For 2010, the ESDR plans to offer 3-4 awards

How do I apply for an award?

[1] Make sure you submit an abstract for the 2010 JSID meeting in Wakayama (deadline 7 July 2010; see JSID website for details)

[2] Apply by email to the ESDR Administrative Director, Thomas Florestan (thomas[at]esdr.org) (deadline for applications 17.00 Friday 7 July 2010)

[b] Details and goals of proposed department visit in Japan
[c] Brief note from head of department in the Japan confirming his/her willingness to host you, if application is successful

When will Successful Applicants be Notified?

The ESDR and JSID very much hope that these awards will help develop the careers and profile of young researchers by providing the opportunity for international exchange and collegiality.
